What Are the Best Ways to Treat Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a band of connective tissue that runs from the heel bone to the ball of the foot to support the longitudinal arch of the foot. Plantar fasciitis leads to an estimated 1 million patient visits per year and is the most common type of heel pain for patients treated in an outpatient setting, according to research published in May 2022 in StatPearls. The condition accounts for approximately 11% to 15% of all foot symptoms requiring professional medical care, as well as about 10% of running-related injuries.
