People around the world are living longer, with many countries experiencing rapid growth in the proportion of older adults in the population[1]. In 2021, the World Health Organization estimated that by 2030, one in six people will be aged 60 or older [1]. The shift of the population distribution towards older ages, in both high-income and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), has raised concerns over whether and how the care and support needs of older adults are going to be met in the future.
